The people including schoolchildren, activists of religious parties and traders were holding banners and dancing to the tunes of drumbeats to appreciate the services and bravery of the armed forces of Pakistan against the archrival India.
A huge crowed gathered here at D-Chowk to celebrate the victory of the Armed Forces against the enemy country and chanted slogans of 'Long Live Pakistan and Long Live Pakistan Army.' The atmosphere was already loaded with national songs blaring from loudspeakers.
The celebrations continued till evening as people from twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad kept going to D-Chow, and some activists of the political parties also delivered speeches eulogising the services of the Armed Forces.
"Everybody's emotions are running high," said Salman, recalling the intrusion by Indian Air Force a day ago. He said that Pakistan had no option but to retaliate and give a befitting response to India like it did today [by shooting down two Indian fighter planes].
Soha, a college student, said that the people of Pakistan cannot compromise on the dignity and honour of the country, as it is a matter of life and death when India resorts to adventurism against Pakistan.
"Everybody including myself wanted a tit-for-tat response to Indian like our PAF pilots did today...we are a nuclear power and no country should dare treat us like as if we are Afghanis or Bengalis," she added.
A good number of activists belonging to hardliner religious political parties also thronged D-Chowk to express solidarity and eulogise the services of the Armed Forces. They said that they would take out rallies on Friday to loud the services of the Armed Forces.
"We stand by our military and when it's a matter of sovereignty of our country, every Pakistani is ready to volunteer," said Matiullah, a seminary student.
Begum Shamim Ara, a 70-year-old retired government official, was also seen at the venue. She said that she had come to D-Chowk just to show that every single Pakistani, whether young or elderly, is ready to fight with their military side by side.
"The Indians must not forget that we have a history and we are capable enough to give them a befitting response. The nuclear arsenals we've acquired are not for anyone else but for an enemy like India," she declared.
Gulistan Khan, who is running a small tuck shop in the capital, said that there will be no compromise on the dignity and prestige of the country, adding, "Any malicious attempt to let down Pakistan is like inviting death, as our love for our country is like nothing else."
